Julie M. Balovich
Julie M. Balovich joined the Law Offices of Brandy Voss, PLLC as Of Counsel in 2022. Before joining the team, she spent 19 years as a civil litigator and appellate attorney at Texas RioGrande Legal Aid, Inc. She maintained a diverse and interesting practice throughout Southwest Texas in the areas of family, real estate, landlord-tenant, guardianship, probate, civil rights, federal income tax, and consumer and torts litigation. She also served as an assistant public defender handling both trial and appeals.
Julie received a Bachelor of Arts in the Plan II Liberal Arts Honors Program at the University of Texas and subsequently graduated with honors from the University of Texas School of Law. She served as a law clerk to a federal magistrate judge in the Northern District of California. She then was awarded a fellowship with the National Association of Public Interest Law to work at Bet Tzedek Legal Services in Los Angeles, where she practiced in the areas of landlord-tenant, consumer litigation, disability rights, and public benefits. She returned to Texas to serve as a briefing attorney for one year at the Texas Supreme Court.
Julie is licensed in Texas and in California. She has represented clients in appeals before the Texas Supreme Court, the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, and the Texas intermediate appellate courts, as well as federal district and appeals courts. In 2012, she was one of two attorneys honored with the State Bar of Texas J. Chrys Dougherty Legal Services Award. She is also a two-time recipient of the State Bar of Texas Poverty Law Section Impact Award. In 2008, she was featured in Texas Lawyer as part of the “Mom Squad” who successfully represented the mothers of the children who were removed by the Department of Family and Protective Services from the YFZ Ranch in Eldorado, Texas in what became known as the largest child custody litigation in the history of the country.
